The theme "ANCESTRAL FUTURE" highlights the value of knowledge acquired in the past and the importance of traditions in projecting the future, using the productive and creative features of current technologies. It is an approach that values the wisdom and accumulated experience over time, proposing a connection between cultural roots and the values passed down by previous generations with present and future life. This idea implies rescuing ancestral heritage and analyzing what has been preserved, contrasting with the speed and renewal of contemporary society. Thus, the exhibition "Ancestral Future" seeks to reconcile the past and the present, valuing traditional knowledge as guides for overcoming current challenges in society and the consequent creation of a more sustainable, ethical, moral, and balanced future.

 

This contest aims to stimulate image production through mobile platforms (mobgraphy) in order to create a dialogue about this new form of communication through mobile photography. It is an opportunity to discover the talent of each person participating in the exhibition/projection at the Museum of Image and Sound of São Paulo (MIS) in the following categories:

 

NOTE: Every year we have 6 open categories and 1 special category, ENSAIO. This year, embracing the new available technologies, which also support art production, including imagery, we will have one more open category: Artificial Intelligence (image created through prompts), in this case, produced on the cell phone.

In addition to the specific tags mentioned above for each category, ALL IMAGES MUST ALSO INCLUSIVEY USE THE TAG #mobgraphia in their posts.

 

The images must be MANDATORILY CAPTURED, EDITED, AND POSTED using smartphones and/or tablets and cannot have been finalists/selected in other Prizes/Festivals/Contests in Brazil or any other country. Processed and/or constructed images using computer software are not permitted.

 

NEW CATEGORY: Artificial Intelligence category: MUST HAVE BEEN GENERATED through a prompt/text on any AI platform, following the rules and guidelines of the platform. ONLY IMAGES GENERATED THROUGH PROMPTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

 

NOTE:

- Only 3 photos per person per category will be accepted.

- Participants must post or repost their photos from February 21, 2024, to March 30, 2024, with the specific hashtag of each category added with the tag #mobgraphia in the CAPTION of the photo, not in the comments.

 

- Each participant can post ONLY 3 PHOTOS PER CATEGORY.

- ONLY 3 PHOTOS PER CATEGORY will be accepted.

 

NOTE: If a participant posts more than 3 photos per category, they will be disqualified.

 

REGISTRATION AND PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS:

The posts must be made from February 21 to March 30, 2024. Posts received outside this period (from 12:00 AM February 21, 2024, to 11:59 PM March 30, 2024) will not be accepted.

 

IMPORTANT: To be valid, Instagram accounts CANNOT be private. Check the privacy settings of your Instagram.

 

EACH PARTICIPANT/PERSON CAN SUBMIT UP TO 3 IMAGES PER CATEGORY.

The images must be free of watermarks or signatures. All rights to the image belong to the participant. By participating in this prize/contest, the photographer/author authorizes Mobgraphia to use the submitted/posted image, as long as it is identified with the respective copyright credits. Mobgraphia Cultura Visual may use the image in publications and/or promotions of any nature, bearing in mind that any authorizations for image use are the sole responsibility of the participating photographer/author.

 

For the selection of finalists and winners, Mobgraphia will appoint a Selection Committee composed of jurors invited by the Festival, with experience in the areas of photographic production, curating, reflection, or teaching of photography, video, and cinema. They must be nationally or internationally active in these areas and/or related fields.

 

The decisions of the Selection Committee are sovereign and final.

The initial/shortlist selection results will be announced on Mobgraphia channels (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and website - www.mobgraphia.com.br), after April 15, 2024. Stay tuned to Mobgraphia's social media and website.

The photographer/author whose image is selected will be notified through Mobgraphia channels (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, live stream, or website).

It is not necessary to send the original file. If the organizing committee requests the original file of the selected image, the author will have 24 hours to deliver it. If the photographer fails to meet the deadline, they will be disqualified.

The selected photos will be printed/finished/produced by Mobgraphia and later exhibited in an exclusive room during the Festival at MIS (Museum of Image and Sound of São Paulo). This exhibition may also be presented on other dates, locations, and cities in Brazil and/or abroad.

OPEN CATEGORIES RESULTS: Mobgraphia will announce the shortlist with 10 selected participants and the names of the 5 finalists. Only the winners of each category will be presented at the awards ceremony (May 17, 2024 at 7:00 pm) at MIS in São Paulo.

 

DISCLOSURE: The exhibition will be part of the official program of the MOBILE PHOTO FESTIVAL 2024. The selected images may be used in the Festival's communication and promotion strategies (website, Mobgraphia and partners' social media, catalog, invitation, press release, social media, etc.), at no cost to the author.

EXHIBITION: The open category exhibition will include the 5 finalists and winner of each category, and will take place from May 17 to June 21, 2024.

GENERAL PROVISIONS: The authorship of the photos/videos is the sole responsibility of the selected photographer/author, who releases the Festival organization from any claims or copyright actions from third parties.

It is the sole responsibility of the participant (photographer/author) to resolve any issues regarding the use of the image rights of the people depicted. Registration in the selection process implies acceptance of all conditions specified in this Regulation.

The images must comply with all requirements of this Regulation, under penalty of disqualification. Cases not covered in this Regulation will be resolved by the Selection Committee, together with Mobgraphia Cultura Visual management. The selected printed photos and digital files become part of Mobgraphia Cultura Visual's collection (physical and digital).

The Mobile Photo Festival 2024 will not accept images that do not comply with the MIS statute (Museum of Image and Sound of São Paulo), as well as submissions must follow the platform/social media (Instagram) rules, subject to disqualification. NOT allowed: political content; religious content in a derogatory form; discriminatory content; pornography.

For minors, authorization from parents or legal guardians is required.

Any action (complaint, objection, criticism, etc.) by a participant openly on social media will result in disqualification.

Mobgraphia Cultura Visual informs that participants' data may be shared with sponsors/supporters of the Mobile Photo Festival 2024, and participants hereby authorize the sharing of their data by the organization of the Mobile Photo Festival 2024.

ABOUT THE OBJECT:

This Call for Entries aims to select photographs exclusively taken and edited on smartphones and tablets that will be part of an exhibition with the theme: "ANCESTRAL FUTURE" - "BEYOND THE CELL PHONE"

 

ABOUT THE PARTICIPANTS:

Participants can only submit 1 (one) photo essay.

The essay must consist of a minimum of 8 (eight) and a maximum of 10 (ten) photos that construct a visual narrative on the proposed theme "ANCESTRAL FUTURE" - "BEYOND THE CELL PHONE".

 

Members of the Selection Committee, as well as the organizers of this exhibition and minors, are not allowed to enter, unless authorized by their guardians.

 

ABOUT THE ENTRIES AND PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS:

Entries must be submitted from February 21th to March 30th, 2024 (from 12:00 am on February 21th, 2024 to 11:59 pm on March 30th, 2024).

THE ENTRY IS FREE

 

The images must be sent in jpeg format, with a size of 1,200 pixels on the longer side and at least 200 dpi.

Entries submitted after the deadline (by 11:59 pm on March 30th, 2024) or that do not comply with the above-mentioned requirements will not be accepted.

 

ABOUT THE JURY

For the selection of the entries, Mobgraphia will designate 1 (one) member invited by the Festival to join the Selection Committee and judge the works submitted in this specific category, with experience in photography production, curation, reflection, or teaching.

The decisions of the Selection Committee are final and cannot be appealed.

 

ABOUT THE SELECTION OF PHOTOS

Among the submitted photo essays, the Selection Committee will choose 3 essays to be part of the exhibition, among those that meet the requirements stated in this Call for Entries.

The selection will have a ranking effect.

 

ABOUT THE EVALUATION CRITERIA

For the selection of photos to be included in the exhibition, the Judge will analyze the works according to the following criteria:

 

• Relevance to the proposed theme;

• Consistent visual narratives;

• Captions and texts (if necessary);

• Innovative nature of the work;

• Uniqueness and originality of the piece.

 

The Judge's decision is final and cannot be contested.

 

ABOUT THE RESULTS

The results of the initial selection (shortlist of 5 essays) will be announced through Mobgraphia's communication channels and/or the official website, www.mobgraphia.com.br, after April 15th, 2024.

 

The photographer whose essay is selected will be notified through Mobgraphia's channels. The deadline for submitting the final file (if requested) for printing will be 24 hours after receiving the notification. If the author does not read the communication or does not respond to the festival's request and does not submit the essay within the deadline, it will not be included in the exhibition, and the next name on the shortlist will be chosen.

 

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION OF SELECTED ESSAYS

The photos of the essays will be printed by Mobgraphia and displayed in an exclusive room during the Mobile Photo Festival 2024 at MIS (São Paulo Image and Sound Museum), taking place from May 17th to July 21st, 2024, with the award ceremony on May 17th, 2024.

This exhibition may also be presented on other dates, venues, and cities.

 

The shortlist will be announced starting from April 15th, and on the award ceremony night, the 3 essays that will be part of the exhibition and the winning essay will be announced.

 

ABOUT PUBLICITY

The exhibition will be part of the official program of MOBILE PHOTO FESTIVAL 2024.

The selected images may be used for promotion and communication of the Festival (website, catalog, invitation, press coverage, and social media), without any charges to the organization.

All notifications will be made through Mobgraphia Cultura Visual's official channels.

 

GENERAL DISPOSITIONS

The authorship of the photos is the sole responsibility of the selected artist/author, who exempts the Festival organization from any claim or copyright action by third parties.

The inscribed/author is solely responsible for resolving any issues related to the rights of image use of the people portrayed.

By participating in the selection process, participants accept all the conditions stipulated in this call for entries/regulations.

The images must comply with all the requirements of this Call for Entries, under penalty of disqualification.

 

 

Cases not reported in this Notice will be resolved by the Selection Committee, along with the direction of Mobgraphia Visual Culture. The photos, printed and/or digital files, selected become part of the Mobgraphia Visual Culture collection.

Mobgraphia reserves the right to change the format of the exhibition, in case of issues with the exhibition space in question (MIS-SP).

The Mobile Photo Festival 2024 will not accept essays/narratives that do not follow the rules of the MIS statute (Museum of Image and Sound of São Paulo), being subject to disqualification.
